Position Title: Preschool Forest School Teacher’s Assistant
Location: Bloomsbury Farm School
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM (August 10 -May 13)
Compensation: $18.00/hr
Reports To: Preschool Director and Lead Teacher
About the Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and nature-loving Preschool Forest School Assistant Teacher to join our outdoor early childhood education program. This position supports the Preschool Director and Lead teacher in creating meaningful, child-centered learning experiences in a nature-based environment. The ideal candidate values outdoor education, believes in the capabilities of young children, and enjoys working collaboratively as part of a dynamic teaching team.
Our program emphasizes hands-on exploration, child-led discovery, environmental stewardship, and learning through play in all seasons and weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom & Student Support
Assist the Preschool Director and Lead teacher with daily implementation of nature-based preschool programming.
Facilitate, monitor, and actively participate in immersive outdoor learning experiences.
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children in all weather conditions.
Support children's individual needs while helping manage whole-group activities and transitions.
Encourage curiosity, independence, problem-solving, and social-emotional growth through child-directed learning.
Provide positive guidance and support as children navigate interactions with peers and adults.
Supervise children during lessons, open play, hikes, exploration, meals, and transitions.
Curriculum & Learning
Contribute ideas for standards-based, curriculum-aligned lessons inspired by children's interests and observations.
Support experiential, hands-on learning activities rooted in nature and outdoor exploration.
Foster a culture of reflection, inquiry, creativity, perseverance, teamwork, and risk-taking through play and discovery.
Model best practices in nature-based early childhood education.
Program Operations
Assist with daily setup, organization, maintenance, and cleanup of outdoor classroom spaces.
Keep learning materials organized, maintained, and inventoried.
Communicate material and supply needs to the Preschool Director.
Assist with student check-in and check-out procedures and safety protocols.
Help maintain clean, welcoming, and functional learning environments.
Communication & Collaboration
Collaborate closely with the Preschool Director and fellow educators.
Support daily communication with families through the school's communication platform, including updates, reminders, activities, and weather-related notifications.
Maintain professional, positive relationships with children, families, staff, and volunteers.
Communicate concerns, observations, and student needs with administration in a timely manner.

Arrive on time and prepared for each school day.
Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Take direction and feedback professionally from the Preschool Director and administration.
Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a positive attitude.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 3–5).
Interest in outdoor, nature-based, forest school, Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, or experiential education approaches.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to actively supervise and engage children in outdoor environments.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and comfortably navigate uneven outdoor terrain.
Applicants must be 18 years or older.

About the Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and nature-loving Elementary Forest School Assistant Teacher to support our K–5 outdoor learning program. This position works closely with lead classroom teachers to create meaningful, engaging, and child-centered learning experiences rooted in nature, exploration, and hands-on learning.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with elementary-aged children, values outdoor education, and is passionate about supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally in a collaborative learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Classroom Assistance
Assist classroom teachers in facilitating daily learning activities for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
Support individual students and small groups during academic lessons, projects, and outdoor learning experiences.
Lead and facilitate occasional small-group instruction, intervention, enrichment activities, and pull-out groups as directed by classroom teachers.
Provide one-on-one support for students as needed to promote academic success, engagement, and independence.
Assist students with emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and social-emotional skill development using positive guidance and professional boundaries.
Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
Outdoor Learning & Nature-Based Education
Facilitate, monitor, and actively participate in immersive outdoor learning experiences in all seasons and weather conditions.
Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and stewardship of the natural environment.
Support child-led exploration, experiential learning, and hands-on educational opportunities.
Model enthusiasm for outdoor learning and nature-based education.
Classroom Preparation & Organization
Assist classroom teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organization, and material management.
Prepare, organize, and maintain learning materials, supplies, and outdoor classroom spaces.
Support daily setup, breakdown, and cleanup of classroom and outdoor learning environments.
Communicate supply and material needs to teachers and administration.
Supervision & Safety
Assist with student supervision throughout the school day, including transitions, outdoor exploration, meals, and exloritory play.
Support student check-in and check-out procedures as needed.
Follow all school safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk-management practices.
Maintain awareness of student well-being and communicate concerns to teachers and administration promptly.
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, administration, and fellow staff members.
Maintain positive, professional relationships with students, families, staff, and volunteers.
Communicate observations, student needs, and concerns effectively with teachers and administration.
Support school events, field experiences, and special programs as needed.
