K-5 LEARNING FRAMEWORK: Enrichment programs for children ages 5 through 12 (K-5th grade, must be 5 by May 2026)
Our Enrichment Programs are an immersive cross curricular, peer integrated experience designed to supplement and enrich academic learning by creating a meaningful space for children to learn, explore, and grow outdoors. Serving children ages 5–12, this program offers an environment where curiosity, creativity, and connection to the natural world take center stage and celebrating the gift of childhood.
Rooted in the belief children learn best through hands-on experiences, exploration, and play our program invites all learners back to the foundations of discovery: exploring forests and fields, building and creating with natural materials, asking questions, solving problems, and engaging in purposeful play. Through seasonal adventures and real-world experiences, children develop confidence, resilience, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
Learning is organized through thematic units that allow children to dive deeply into engaging topics rather than rushing from one concept to the next. These extended investigations provide opportunities for long-term projects, inquiry-based learning, and meaningful skill development. Themes may include topics such as ecosystems, farming and food systems, wildlife habitats, weather and seasons, natural engineering, stewardship, natural dyes, traditional skills, and more. * see below for current theme
Each theme incorporates cross-curricular learning experiences that naturally weave together science, literacy, mathematics, social studies, art, and practical life skills. Children may measure and design garden spaces, journal observations of local wildlife, create nature-inspired artwork, investigate ecological relationships, build structures, or explore historical and cultural connections to the land.
Recognizing that every child learns differently, instruction is thoughtfully differentiated to meet a range of ages, abilities, and learning styles. Multi-age learning encourages collaboration, leadership, and peer mentorship, while activities are adapted to provide appropriate challenges and opportunities for success for each learner.
At its heart, our Enrichment Program offers children the gift of time—time to wonder, create, explore, and engage deeply with the world around them.
current Theme: Magnificent Migrations
As seasons change so do the patterns and rhythms of wildlife. Just look to the skies! On any given day, you are bound to see birds migrating somewhere, but the spring and fall are the busiest by far. Billions of birds are on the move. Where are they going and why?
In our Enrichment classes this fall, we’ll head into the field to learn all about the magnificent migration of birds. Our adventures will require us to slow down and carefully observe the activities of these winged friends. We’ll follow their flight paths and collect clues to help us solve the mystery of their methods. We’ll figure out their favorite sources of food and shelter and will closely examine them to further understand their ways. Finally, we’ll learn how we can support birds by creating and protecting outdoor spaces where they can thrive. Each week, learners will engage in fun art and science projects that will help them build knowledge, skills, and an assortment of handcrafted items to support birds and the critical role they play in our ecosystem. As a school, we will work together to create a sanctuary for the birds of Bloomsbury.
Maker Monday:
Maker Monday is a hands-on, nature-based enrichment program designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, innovation, and a deeper connection with the natural world. Each session invites children to explore art, gardening, craftsmanship, and maker projects using materials, ideas, and inspiration drawn directly from nature and the changing seasons.
From planting and tending garden beds to experimenting with natural dyes, building, designing, problem-solving, and exploring creative processes, Maker Monday encourages children to learn by doing. Through open-ended projects and guided investigations, participants develop confidence, critical thinking skills, perseverance, and creative expression while working with their hands in a meaningful outdoor environment.
Activities may include creating botanical prints, nature-inspired paintings, handmade paper, clay and natural sculptures, weaving and fiber arts, woodworking projects, nature journaling, garden design, fairy and wildlife habitats, land art installations, simple engineering challenges, and eco-friendly art techniques. Children may investigate the science behind natural pigments, experiment with plant-based dyes, build structures from natural materials, create seasonal crafts, design inventions, or develop long-term projects connected to weekly themes.
Learning is organized through thematic explorations that integrate art, science, engineering, environmental stewardship, literacy, and practical life skills. By allowing time for deeper investigation and creative experimentation, Maker Monday provides opportunities for children to pursue ideas, refine skills, and take ownership of their learning and creativity.
Rooted in creativity, sustainability, and exploration, Maker Monday offers a welcoming space for children to slow down, get their hands dirty, think outside the box, and discover the joy of making. Whether crafting, planting, building, inventing, or experimenting, each week provides a new opportunity to create, connect, and grow while fostering an appreciation for both the natural world and the endless possibilities of imagination.
FARM/FOREST FRIDAY:
Farm/Forest Friday is an immersive, nature-based enrichment program that blends hands-on learning with exploration of the surrounding forest, fields, and gardens. Designed to spark curiosity, cultivate environmental stewardship, and build real-world skills, each session invites students to engage deeply with the land through ecology, gardening, local food systems, science, exploration, and creative problem-solving.
Children become naturalists, gardeners, scientists, and explorers as they investigate the interconnected systems of the natural world. They might spend time observing ecosystems, nature journaling, planting and harvesting in the garden, identifying native plants and wildlife, learning to forage responsibly, building simple structures, conducting field investigations, or tackling collaborative challenges inspired by the environment around them. Whether studying soil health, pollinator relationships, weather patterns, forest habitats, or the journey of food from seed to table, every experience encourages curiosity, observation, and discovery.
Learning is rooted in hands-on exploration and organized through seasonal and thematic studies that allow children to dive deeper into topics over time. Activities may include gardening and composting, habitat and wildlife studies, water and soil investigations, nature mapping, tracking seasonal changes, cooking with harvested foods, stewardship projects, outdoor skills, scientific experiments, and creative projects inspired by the forest and farm. Children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, solve problems, and develop a greater understanding of the natural systems that sustain life.
Through a blend of science, ecology, agriculture, environmental education, and practical life skills, Farm/Forest Friday provides meaningful opportunities for cross-curricular learning in an authentic outdoor setting. Multi-age experiences encourage collaboration, leadership, teamwork, and peer mentorship while allowing activities to be differentiated for a variety of ages, abilities, and interests.
INVESTMENT: $340/month for either Maker Monday or Farm/Forest Friday
Enrollment for Maker Monday or Farm/Forest Friday is for the school year, spanning August - May. (Dual enrollment also available)
